Healthcare workers at Nathan Littauer Hospital and nursing home barely avoided a strike.

Members of the SEIU Union have ratified a new contract agreement after months of bargaining.

“These dedicated healthcare workers united and fought hard to preserve and maintain their comprehensive health benefits. They also protected their pension, and secured annual wage increases and bonuses so they can take care of their own families at the same time they care for their community,” said Greg Speller, executive vice president of 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.

The hospital and nursing home workers in Gloversville had been in contract negotiations with management since May. Their contract expired on June 30.

Workers gave their employer a 20-day notice on Nov. 6 to strike. A tentative agreement was reached last week.

The new contract runs through June 30, 2026. It includes a freeze on health insurance premium increases, along with pension protection, and better on-call pay.
