A new facility will help survivors of sexual assault make decisions about their next steps.
The New York State Office of Victim Services says the agency has a new facility up and running.
It is used to store rape kits that have not been released to police.
State law requires unreported kits be stored for 20 years from the date of the collection.
This facility can hold 17,400 items right now, Gov. Kathy Hochul said. It will soon be able to accommodate 26,600 items.
