New Jersey man faces charges in Vermont shooting

A New Jersey man has been arrested for allegedly holding two Bennington County residents against their will and shooting one back in October.

Mohamed M. Hamdi, 32, and other man entered a residence on Twitchell Hill Road in Shaftsbury, Vermont at around 11 p.m. on Oct. 23. He forced 33-year-old Joseph Maccioli and 25-year-old Nicholas Baker into the basement, Vermont State Police said. Hamdi then allegedly assaulted Maccioli and shot him when he was attempting to flee.

Maccioli was airlifted to Albany Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Baker refused medical attention.

Hamdi has been charged with five counts of kidnapping and two counts of aggravated assault. He was picked up on Thursday in Union, New Jersey and is awaiting extradition to Vermont. The incident is still under investigation.
