New NY state law targets wage discrimination
A new law signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul will require employers to post the salary ranges for job listings, promotions and transfers. The goal is to help end wage discrimination, says Hochul.
The governor noted a disparity in wages between men and women, especially women of color.
The state Department of Labor says that women – on average – make only 83% of what men make. Many women of color are paid even less.
Hochul says the new law will help level the playing field for all employees entering the workforce.
