New York to get $129 million for lead pipe removal

Money on the way to help get lead out of drinking water. A total of $129 million in funding is on the way.

A total of $129 million for removal of lead water pipes is headed to New York, U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer announced on Thursday.

This is part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

“No amount of toxic lead exposure is safe for our children, which is why I led the charge in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to deliver the funding to get the lead out,” Schumer said in a statement. “This is only the latest in those efforts to bolster the clean and safe drinking water our communities need, all while creating a steady stream of good-paying jobs. I will continue to fight until not one lead pipe remains in New York.

The funding is on top of $420 million that the state earlier this year from the EPA for New York’s Drinking Water and Clean Water State Revolving Funds to help modernize and clean the state’s water system.
