North Adams to close elementary school, lay off worers.

North Adams schools are planning to lay off nearly 30 employees as the district consolidates its elementary schools.

Greylock Elementary School is set to close at the end of this school year.

A total of 22 teachers and seven other staff members will be laid off, according to NewsChannel 13’s media partners at The Berkshire Eagle.

The existing three prekindergarten through sixth grade schools will be consolidated into two buildings. Brayton Elementary will be kindergarten through second grade and Colegrove Park Elementary will be third through fifth grade.

There are plans to build a new school on the Greylock property by 2027.
