North Greenbush Police report more instances of ‘Grandparent Scam’
North Greenbush Police see more instances of Grandparent Scam including a customer trying to withdraw large sum of money from Pioneer Bank.
North Greenbush Police are reporting more incidents of the so-called “Grandparent Scam.”
Pioneer Savings Bank told police about a customer last Friday who was trying to withdraw an unusually large amount of cash. The customer told the teller that they needed to pay an attorney because a family member was in trouble, police said.
After speaking with the customer, police determined that it was another instance of the Grandparent Scam in which scammers pose as a grandchild saying they are in legal trouble and need money to be sent to them immediately.
Police have reported receiving several calls last week reporting this scam.
People are advised not to provide financial or personal information over the phone.
