The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is urging Americans to buckle up ahead of the busy summer travel season. According to a new report, the national use rate for seat belts was just below 92% in 2022.

About half of those killed in 2021 crashes were not wearing seat belts –  57% of those killed at night were unrestrained.

Seat belts saved an estimated 15,000 lives in 2017 alone, the agency said.
