Police: Averill Park teen dragged trooper under ATV

An Averill Park teen is accused of dragging a state trooper under his ATV after police attempted to stop him.

New York State Police stopped Joseph O. Dominy, 19, just before 5 p.m. Friday for illegally operating on Johnny Cake Lane in Sand Lake, police said.

Police said Dominy, was uncooperative with troopers and fled the stop in the ATV.

While the trooper was trying to remove Dominy from the ATV, the trooper was dragged by the vehicle for about 200 yards and got trapped under the ATV, police said.

Dominy then fled the scene in the vehicle.

Authorities say the trooper was taken to Albany Medical Center with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The trooper was discharged from the hospital since Friday and recovering from their injuries.

Investigation determined that Dominy was operating the ATV and he was taken into custody out of his Averill Park home.

Dominy was charged with second-degree attempted aggravated assault upon a police officer, as well as numerous vehicle and traffic law violations.

Police say Dominy was arraigned at the Sand Lake Town Court and remanded to Rensselaer County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 in cash, a $50,000 bond, or a $50,000 partially secured bond.
