A New York City man is back in prison for attempting to smuggle drugs into the Capital Region.

Hernandez Hayes, 49, was sentenced in Columbia County to 17 years, according to the district attorney’s office. This comes after pleading guilty to planning to sell cocaine and fentanyl.

Hayes has six prior drug related convictions. While out on bail for these charges back in March, he was arrested for drug trafficking in Warren, Washington and Saratoga counties.

Those charges are still pending.
