The Albany Police officer injured in a shootout on April 17, was released from Albany Medical Center on Wednesday.

Officer Jonathan Damphier left around 3 p.m. in an ambulance with a police escort down New Scotland Avenue.

A big crowd lined up outside to cheer him on.

At about 12:30 a.m. last Wednesday, Damphier noticed a speeding car.

He tried to stop the driver, but then called off the chase due to safety concerns.

He later spotted the parked car near North Main and Western a short time later.

Damphier was shot in the leg as he approached the car. He returned fire.

The shooter ultimately took his own life, police said.

Damphier’s femur was shattered and he had to get multiple blood transfusions in the days after surgery, according to a GoFundMe set up for him.

He has been with the Albany Police Department for three years and is also a military police officer in the Army Reserve.

The GoFundMe met its goal and is not accepting any more donations.

Damphier now has months of physical therapy as he continues his road to recovery.
