One of Fort Ann’s largest employers set to close this November
FORT ANN, N.Y. (WNYT) – The Great Meadow Correctional Facility is set to close its doors on November 6th. This means The Town of Fort Ann is set to lose one of its largest employers this November.
The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS) said that the reason for the closure was because of a staffing shortage.
“All DOCCS staff will be offered positions at other facilities and the Department will be able to safely absorb the incarcerated population into vacant beds available at other institutions. Again, no layoffs are anticipated,” the DOCCS said in a statement today.
Fort Ann Town Supervisor Samuel Hall said he feels with this upcoming closure that his town will become forgotten.
“Well, it was gut wrenching because I know what it will do to our community,” said Hall.
Hall said that the town will help the workers from the prison in any way that they can.
“We will do what we can in any way that we can too what we can do to help them to get situated and help them stay within our town if possible. Because we really do value them, and we know what we’re going to lose when we lose those members of our community,” Hall said.
