One person is dead after a two-vehicle crash in Columbia County.

Police responded to a report of an automobile crash at around 10 a.m. Friday on Route 66 near the intersection with Fish and Game Road in the town of Claverack.

One of the drivers was seriously injured and taken by Greenport Rescue Squad to Columbia Memorial Health. That driver was later pronounced dead at the hospital, police said.

The driver of the second vehicle was not injured.

The crash is under investigation. The identities of the people involved are not being released pending notification of family.

A telecommunications pole was damaged in the crash and Verizon is on scene replacing the pole.
