The twin-engine Piper PA-31 Navajo plane went down in a wooded area near a neighborhood at Albany-Shaker Road and Maxwell Road.
Natalie Gillis, 34, of Canada was killed. She had been in North Carolina and had just taken off from an overnight refueling stop in Albany.
The official cause of death was determined to be a combination of trauma and extensive thermal injury.
The crash narrowly missed a nearby neighborhood. People there said their homes shook. Luckily, no one else was hurt.
