One dead, one seriously hurt in Schenectady County crash

One person was killed in a two-car crash in Schenectady County on Wednesday morning.

The crash happened at around 9 a.m. on Mariaville Road at Weast Road in Princetown. One of the two cars caught fire. Two good Samaritans put it out, the Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office said.

The driver and only person in the car that caught fire was found dead in the driver’s seat, police said. The other driver was taken to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries.

Police are not releasing the victims’ identities. The Schenectady County Sheriff’s Crash Team and Criminal Investigation Unit are investigating.

The Schenectady County Sheriff’s Office, State Police, the Mariaville Fire Department, Plotterkill Fire Department, Mohawk Ambulance and the state Department of Transportation also responded to the scene.
