A Pittsfield police officer is thankful he was in the right place at the right time, he said.
Officer Michael Doyle was around 11 Third Street, when he noticed it was on fire. It was the middle of the night, and the people inside were sleeping.
Doyle woke up five kids and two adults and got them out.
Firefighters told him the whole home would have been destroyed in about 10 minutes.
The cause is still under investigation.
