Construction worker struck, killed by 87-year-old driver in Pittsfield

A 49-year-old construction worker is dead after being struck while working in the road in Pittsfield.

The crash happened at about 7:52 a.m. in the area of 777 West St. Shane Cassavant, of Lanesboro, was working in the eastbound lane, which was closed to traffic. A flagger was directing traffic in the westbound lane.

A Chevy Colorado driven by 87-year-old man entered the construction zone and struck Cassavant, according to police. Cassavant was taken to Berkshire Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

NewsChannel 13 is not naming the driver because he has not yet been charged with a crime.

The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Hallas at 413-448-9700, ext. 560.

A section of West Street was closed for about three hours during the investigation and cleanup of the crash.
