Police: Amsterdam man smashed vehicles, buildings, causing $17,000 worth of damage

An Amsterdam man has been arrested after he caused $17,000 worth of damage to buildings and vehicles in the city, police said.

Brian C. Lebron, 51, is facing nine total counts of criminal mischief.

The investigation began when Amsterdam Police were contacted by an East Main Street resident on Nov. 13 telling them that their vehicle had been vandalized overnight. When officers arrived, they observed that two additional vehicles were damaged. All three had their windows and/or their windshield shattered, police said.

Investigators learned that another six buildings had been damaged along Main Street, Chuctanunda Street, Church Street and East Main Street in the overnight hours of Nov. 12 into Nov. 13, police said.

Police collected multiple bricks they believe were used to damage the properties.

Surveillance footage led them to identify Lebron as a suspect. He was arrested last Sunday when an officer spotted him in the area of Church Street.

Police found a number of bricks near an area where Lebron is known to frequent, they said.

Lebron was released on his own recognizance. He is due in Amsterdam City Court at a later date.
