Police: Colonie man withdrew funds after depositing fake check worth over $50,000

A Colonie man is facing charges for allegedly withdrawing funds from a fraudulent check.

State Police said Raymond A. Brownell, 57, deposited a check worth over $50,000 in an account in his name at a Halfmoon financial institution. Brownell then withdrew the funds. The bank reported the fraud to police in July.

Brownell turned himself in on Sept. 20 to the State Police station in Clifton Park. He was charged with felony counts of second-degree grand larceny and criminal possession of a forged instrument. Brownell was arraigned in Clifton Park Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
