A 55-year-old Fulton County man is accused recklessly firing a gun and injuring a person.

Daniel E. Laverdure, of Ephratah, pointed a handgun at the victim at his home on Murray Hill Road on Dec. 22 around 9:30 a.m., investigators said on Wednesday.

Laverdure recklessly discharged the weapon, causing a piece of shrapnel to injure the victim’s hand, police said. The victim later reported the incident to police.

With the assistance of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, troopers located Laverdure driving a vehicle on Route 5 in Palatine and arrested him. He was transported to the State Police station in Fonda, where he recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.23% – nearly three times the legal limit.

Laverdure was charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, menacing and aggravated DWI.

He was issued tickets and is due in Palatine Town Court on the DWI incident. He was arraigned on the other charges at Fulton County Centralized Arraignment Court and released on his own recognizance. The weapon has been seized.
