A Hudson man accused of choking and trying to stab his ex-girlfriend last week pleaded not guilty to the charges on Friday.

Orlando Williams, 54, allegedly attacked the woman while she was standing on a back porch on March 14 at around 10:30 p.m. Williams grabbed her from behind, placed his hand over her mouth, ordered her to stay quiet and forced her off the porch, police said.

Williams then is accused of throwing the victim against a car, dragging her down a hill and holding her down. He choked her and attempted to stab her with a knife, police said.

Williams left the scene after being confronted by an acquaintance of the victim. He was located by police the next morning in Greene County and arrested. Williams was held without bail and sent to Columbia County Jail.

The victim had an order of protection against Williams. She refused medical treatment, according to police.

Williams was arraigned in Columbia County Court on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, criminal contempt, strangulation, criminal possession of a weapon and assault.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Cheryl Botts is handling the prosecution. Williams is represented by Kyle Patzwahl, a conflict defender.
