Law enforcement agencies across the state are increasing patrols for speeding drivers from now through Sunday. It’s part of Speed Awareness Week — an annual effort by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
Numbers show fatal crashes caused by unsafe speeds increase statewide during the summer months.
Police issued 23,087 tickets for speeding across the state during the weeklong campaign last year.
They handed out 32,170 tickets for violations such as impaired and distracted driving.
