Police investigate powdery substance sent to Schoharie County Court
Police are investigating a package of a hazardous substance that was sent to Schoharie County Court on Thursday.
Officers responded to the building at about 3:30 p.m. after getting a report that a package containing an unknown powdery substance was delivered. The package was not in its original shipped condition, the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office said.
The courthouse was closed to the public and the package was isolated in an office within the building while the investigation was conducted. Court employees were evacuated and evaluated by Scho-Wright Ambulance and Schoharie County EMS. No employees required medical treatment.
The Schoharie County Office Building was not affected.
Investigators determined that the power is a possible hazardous substance.
Police believe it is an isolated incident and is under investigation.
