Lake Luzerne man accused of severely injuring infant

A Lake Luzerne man was arrested on Tuesday after he assaulted his infant, police said.

Robert Rivers, 36, was charged with first-degree assault, reckless assault of a child and endangering the welfare of a child.

His arrest came after State Police were contacted by Glens Falls Hospital at about 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday about an infant with suspicious life-threatening injuries. The investigation determined that Rivers’ actions were reckless and caused a severe injury, police said.

Police did not elaborate on the nature of the injuries.

The infant was transported to Albany Medical Center and remains in critical condition.

Rivers was arraigned in Warren County Court on Wednesday and sent to the Warren County Jail in lieu of bail of $50,000 cash, $100,000 bond or $150,000 partially secured bond.

This investigation is ongoing, and family members including the mother of the child have been cooperative, police said.
