Police: Niskayuna man drove drunk, crashing car with kids in vehicle

A Niskayuna man was arraigned Wednesday on charges he allegedly drove drunk and crashed his car with young children inside.

Kyle Osborn, 32, crashed into three telephone poles in the area of Van Antwerp Road and Crimson Oak Court on Feb. 2 just after 4 p.m., police said. Three kids under 5 years old were in the car.

Osborn was taken to Ellis Hospital with minor injuries. None of the kids were hurt, police said.

Osborn had a blood alcohol concentration of at least 0.18%, according to one of the charges. The legal limit is 0.08%.

Police had to wait for toxicology results before they could arrest him, according to Police Chief Jordan Kochan, which explained the nearly six-week delay before Osborn was arrested.

After an investigation, Osborn was charged three DWI counts and endangering the welfare of a child.

He was arraigned in Niskayuna Town Court on Wednesday and released to appear at a future date.

Police said Osborn was related to the children, but did not give the specific relationship.
