Stop DWI campaign runs through Dec. 1

Stop DWI campaign begins Wednesday and runs through Dec. 1

Law enforcement agencies are stepping up patrols during this holiday week.

The Stop DWI campaign is focused on raising awareness about the dangers of drunk driving. Wednesday is a popular night for people to out before the holiday.

The enforcement campaign continues through Sunday.  There will be DWI checkpoints.

During the 2023 Thanksgiving holiday period, State Police troopers arrested 178 drivers for DWI, issued 4,349 speeding tickets, and 362 tickets for distracted driving.

The impaired driving enforcement initiative is funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC). The GTSC and the New York State STOP-DWI Foundation remind motorists to download their “Have a Plan” mobile app, which allows New Yorkers to locate and call a taxi or rideshare service and program a designated driver list. It also has information on DWI laws and penalties, and provides a way to report a suspected impaired driver.
