An officer-involved shooting in Fair Haven, Vermont, just over the Washington County border, remains under investigation.

Kenneth Barber was shot and killed by Detective Shaun Hewitt on Monday evening.

Barber was armed with a handgun outside a home, said police.
When troopers got there, others had already restrained Barber, but he broke free.

That’s when Barber got into a car, and hit Hewitt, investigators said.

Hewitt then fired one shot, hitting Barber in the torso.

Kenneth Barber was 38 years old. He was from the town of Castleton in Rutland County.

Hewitt has been a member of law enforcement for 35 years. He was not hurt, Vermont State Police said.
