Two teenagers are arrested, accused of trying to steal a car in Rensselaer County.

Both suspects are students of Vanderheyden, a residential school for troubled youth, investigators said.

A 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl tried taking the car from Fane Gravel, police said last week.

The suspects tried to smash the car through the gates of the business to get out of the lot, but the gate stopped them.

The gate and car were both damaged, investigators said.

The teens then got out of the car, and ran into the woods with items taken from inside the vehicle, investigators said.  They were later caught by police.

Both teens are facing several charges, including grand larceny, criminal mischief and criminal trespass.

The 16-year-old is due in family court at a later date, police said.

Their names are not being released because of their ages.
