Police: Woman used forged check to buy SUV in Wilton

A woman is accused of using a forged bank cashier’s check to purchase an SUV in the town of Wilton.

Joellyn Bedford, 50, of Norwich, had a false name on the $58,500 check. The check was written to purchase a 2021 Ford Bronco through a private sale, the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office said.

Once she completed the purchase, Bedford then sold the vehicle to a dealership in Otsego County, police said.

She was arrested while preparing to board a plane for an overseas flight.

Bedford was charged with felony counts of grand larceny and criminal possession of a forged instrument.

She was arraigned in Wilton Town Court and released to pre-trial services.

The State Department of Motor Vehicle Investigations, State Police and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security assisted in the investigation.
