Public health advisory issued for swimming in Pittsfield

While it might be a beautiful weekend for swimming, residents in Pittsfield need to watch which lake they’re heading to.  

The City of Pittsfield is issuing a public health advisory for Pontoosuc Lake, after recent algae test results have confirmed the presence of a blue-green algae bloom.

As recommended by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, residents are being ask to follow these guidelines:

*do not swim.

*do not swallow water.

*keep animals away.

*rinse off after contact with water.

There could be side effects from coming in contact with this water including skin irritation, muscle cramps, or vomiting.
