Queensbury bottle, can redemption center in danger of closing

A center that recycles bottles and cans is announcing they're closing at the end of the month.

A center that recycles bottles and cans is announcing they’re closing at the end of the month.

NewsChannel 13 has been reporting that redemption centers across the state are closing because the fee they make – which is set by the Legislature –has stalled at 3 ½¢ cents per bottle or can since 2009.

NewsChannel 13 reported last week local center owner Jade Eddy begged a joint session of lawmakers to raise the fee.

Eddy says her business, MT Returnables, is a staple of the Queensbury community.

The center will close November 30 if lawmakers don’t raise the fee.
