Nearly 60 people are getting help from the American Red Cross after a weekend fire at an apartment complex in Schenectady.

Schenectady firefighters responded to a fire just after 3 a.m. Saturday morning at the Southgate Apartments on Frank Street, Chief Don Moreno said.

The middle of the building was involved when they arrived, Moreno said.

The apartment complex had about 10 apartments and everyone in the building made it out safely.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation and sent to the hospital.

No firefighters were injured.

The fire is under investigation, but it’s not considered suspicious, the chief said.

The middle section of the complex is a total loss.
