The Schenectady City School District has the highest rate of chronically absent students in the Capital Region, according to a Times Union report.

More than 3,500 students skipped at least a month of school without an excuse, the report found.

Nearly 20% of those students were not allowed to go to school because they didn’t have all their required vaccinations.

The district saw a 67% increase in absenteeism from 2018 to 2023.
