Dutchess County Executive Republican Marc Molinaro and Ulster County Executive Democrat Pat Ryan are battling to finish out the term for the seat that was held by Democrat Antonio Delgado, who beat incumbent Republican John Faso in 2018.

Delgado became Gov. Kathy Hochul’s lieutenant governor back in May.

Redistricting is making this even more complicated, because the district as we know it will change at the end of this year. For the Capital Region – Greene and Columbia counties are still a part of it.

Heading into Tuesday’s primary, it appears the race is getting tighter. It’s also being talked about nationally, as a litmus test for November.
