Saratoga Black Lives Matter held a press conference at Saratoga City Hall on Tuesday, speaking out about Tyre Nichol’s death.
Activists spoke about their experiences watching the video and voiced their frustration at ongoing police brutality.
They said they are hopeful for a future that provides real solutions for community safety without compromising the right to life in those communities.
“How many more times do we have to come out here? Saratoga Black Lives Matter is here to make sure that SSPD, Saratoga County sheriff’s and that the New York state troopers know that we ain’t having it here in our city. You won’t kill one of us in our city. You won’t beat one of us in our city. All that ended in 2020,” said Lexis Figuereo.
Saratoga BLM also pushed for change from the top down and say they hope that Saratoga Springs can be a leader for police reform.
