Saratoga County Judge Jim Murphy has retired, after being part of the area criminal justice system for nearly four decades.

Murphy presided over thousands of cases as Saratoga County and Acting Supreme Court Judge. He served as Saratoga County District Attorney for five terms and assistant D.A. for nine years before that.

As a prosecutor, he put some of the area’s worst criminals behind bars. Recently as judge, Murphy has presided over murders and child abduction cases, earning the respect of those on opposing sides of cases.

He’s also been a big proponent of allowing cameras in the courtroom.

Hear him reflect on his long career, and the types of cases he says were especially hard to listen to, by watching the video of Mark Mulhollands story.
