Businesses up and down Broadway told NewsChannel 13 that they were getting ready back in May, which meant that there was less of a rush to get open for Opening Day.
Several businesses also believed that new customers met them back in May and June and will definitely be back. There are the old favorites that got new attention at Belmont, and there are also businesses new to the scene opening for their first track season.
“It gives us a jump start, and it made us all I think be ready earlier. You know, normally I tell my vendors I need everything in here July 1. This time, I told everybody I need stuff in here you know mid-May,” said Celtic Treasures owner Paul O’Donnell. “So, it ramped up our purchasing. We bought more for the season, and hopefully we’ll see more.”
The meet runs Wednesday through Sundays through Labor Day.
Another new business, The Wild Horse on Caroline Street, hopes to open on Friday. Learn more about that project by watching Stella Porter’s story.
