A special twice-in-a-lifetime event like the Belmont Stakes being run at Saratoga calls for a special way to commemorate it.

Longtime Saratoga jeweler deJonghe Jewelry has been a Saratoga Springs mainstay for more than four decades. Their shop on Broadway has spent much of that time creating original pieces linked to horse racing.

“I used to just make them in my equestrian line in the summer. Then, I realized that Saratoga is known for that. People love it.”

A few months ago, deJonghe and his family went to work designing something special for Belmont at Saratoga.

“We said this is a perfect time maybe once or twice in a lifetime to create a special charm in a limited edition, so it says ‘Belmont’ on the top then ‘Saratoga’ on the bottom, ‘2024,’” he said.

It can be worn as a charm or as a pendant. It comes in gold or silver, and it’s one of several new Saratoga pieces they’ve created, including a jockey’s cap, silks, and a horseshoe charm with diamonds. 

However, this is the one piece that is special to this year only.
