Saratoga Springs leaders ready for big Belmont boost

Saratoga kicks into high gear as Belmont nears

Tens of thousands of visitors are expected in Saratoga Springs the first week in June, for the Belmont Stakes.

Leaders gathered in Saratoga Springs Wednesday morning to paint a clearer picture of how the city is gearing up for next month’s Belmont Stakes at Saratoga Race Course.

The four-day-long Belmont Stakes festival runs from June 6 until June 9.

As NewsChannel 13 was first to report, the Belmont Stakes is being run at Saratoga this year due to construction at Belmont Park on Long Island. Plans are already in the works for the race to be run at Saratoga again in 2025.

Of course, the big event will be the running of the third jewel of horse racing’s Triple Crown.

However, officials will be painting the town red for the entire weekend, including a family-friendly music festival on Wednesday night called Belmont on Broadway. It will shut down the main thoroughfare in downtown Saratoga Springs and be headlined by Blues Traveler, the 1990s rockers with hits such as “Hook” and “Run-Around.”

Organizers expect 10,000 music fans for the free concert.
