The Saratoga Springs Police Department is pushing for people to consider wearing the uniform.

The starting pay of $54,000 a year is just part of an appealing package, Chief Tyler McIntosh said.

There’s also reimbursement for college expenses, the ability to make a lot more in overtime and the new 12-hour shifts which give even new officers every other weekend off.

The test is in September, but the last day to sign up is Wednesday, August 9. Applications will be accepted at the police station until 1 p.m. that afternoon.

Those who do well on the test – and pass the physical and background checks – could be patrolling the streets by late next year.

Meet some of the other officers – and learn about what they said they like about the job – by watching the video of Mark Mulholland’s story.
