Schenectady County man admits to stealing metal from clinic

A Schenectady County man has admitted to stealing metal and alloys used in dental fillings when he worked at the Stratton VA clinic.

A 65-year-old Schenectady County man was sentenced to probation Thursday for stealing precious metals when he worked at the Stratton Veterans Administration dental clinic.

Arthur Harvey, of Delanson, admitted that while employed at the clinic between October 2017 and May 2021, he stole the metals and alloys used to make crowns, bridges and other dental prostheses, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The material was intended to be recycled, but prosecutors said Harvey sold the precious metals to a third-party refinery for a profit.

He also was required to pay $13,533 in restitution.
