Schenectady man convicted in attack on mother of children

A Schenectady man was convicted on Thursday for attacking the mother of his children during a domestic incident.

Joel Fowler, 33, was found guilty of charges of criminal contempt, criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child stemming from an incident on July 24, 2022.

Fowler became physically violent during an argument with the mother of his children. The victim secretly dialed 911 on her cell phone and left it on the counter.

Fowler noticed the phone and then smashed it. He also threw a large wooden child’s toy at the woman, injuring her, according to a news release.

Three children ages 3 and younger were in the home at the time of the attack.

Fowler was found not guilty of charges of criminal possession of a weapon and menacing stemming from allegations that he had pointed a loaded gun in the face of the woman and threatened to use it.

Fowler is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 6.
