Schenectady man facing charges after police chase
A 31-year-old Schenectady man is accused of leading police on a chase.
Troopers attempted to stop a driver on Albany Street last Thursday at around 8:45 p.m. for traffic violations. The driver, Daquan C. Watkins, allegedly failed to stop and police pursued the vehicle. The pursuit was discontinued in the area of Hamburg Street near Rotterdam.
Troopers found the vehicle on South Brandywine Avenue in Schenectady, where Watkins again fled. He subsequently struck and damaged a marked State Police car.
After a brief foot chase, Watkins was arrested.
He was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, criminal mischief, resisting arrest and numerous vehicle and traffic violations.
Watkins also had an active felony arrest warrant for East Greenbush Town Court. The vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen from Columbia Avenue on March 29.
He was transported to Schenectady County Jail pending arraignment.
