Schenectady man gets 20 years in prison for assault of mother of children

A Schenectady man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for breaking into a home and assaulting the mother of two of his children.

Jahaad Ubrich was sentenced on Thursday after being convicted in August following a trial.

Ubrich carried out a planned violent assault of his former girlfriend in the early morning hours of July 17, 2022, prosecutors said. He coaxed a homeless person to knock on the back door of her porch to seek redeemable cans. Ubrich then burst into the apartment and began punching her face. She was holding their 4-month-old son tightly in her arms during the attack, police said.

Ubrich remained in the home for about 10 minutes until members of the Schenectady Police Department arrived. He then fled out the back door, but was found shortly after police arrived. The victim had a fractured nose and cuts to her head and arm.
