Schenectady Police warn of phone scammer impersonating department employee

Schenectady Police are warning people to look out for a new phone scam.

Police say the scam involves a person over the phone saying they work for the police department.

The scammer uses an active officer’s name.

Then, they tell people they are involved in a legal matter, and provide a phone number to call back.

The provided numbers are not from the Schenectady Police Department.

Police are investigating these calls.
