Scholarship honors Shaker High teen killed in gunfire
Two talented students are getting a boost to help them continue their education, in honor of a gifted Shaker High School student whose life was cut short.
Destiny Greene, 15, was shot and killed in Albany in 2021. She was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of an armed robbery. The honor roll student dreamed of becoming a doctor. A man is serving 25 years in prison for his role in the shooting.
Senior Kevin Williams is one of the recipients of a scholarship in honor of Destiny. The $500 will help him cover some of the cost of college this fall.
Destiny’s mother and president of The My Destiny Scholarship Foundation, Tareen Lynch-Greene, hopes to give that blessing annually to students like her daughter.
Applicants were chosen partly based on an essay about their goals.
Williams has always had a knack for math, he said. It’s a talent he balances with his strong performance on the football field for Shaker. He’s hoping to pursue athletics, both on the field and in the classroom studying sports management or physical training.
Hear Williams talk about what it means to him to get this scholarship and how it will help him meet those goals, by watching the video of Stella Porter’s story.
