Schumer calls for billions of dollars to help families heat homes

Just in time for temperatures to drop, a critical home heating program just ran out of funding.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer was in Troy on Monday, to launch a major push to keep Capital Region residents warm this winter.

This comes as home heating costs are expected to spike up to 39% this winter.

Schumer says he is pushing to pump billions of dollars into the federal Home Energy Assistance Program to prevent people from going cold.

Schumer also announced Monday the city will use federal funding to tear down dilapidated downtown buildings, and turn them into more affordable housing.
