Schumer extends programs that help fire departments
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is extending two programs that work to help staff and equip fire departments.
The Fire Grants and Safety Act of 2023 will bring nearly $700 million in federal funding to fire departments across New York.
The two main funding programs – the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program and Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Responses Programs are both focused on hiring new firefighters and purchasing equipment.
The Capital Region has received more than $16 million through these programs since 2020.
