Monday senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced $3.6 million to be spread across the state.

The money comes from Homeland Security and will go to 27 fire departments across New York.
In the Capital Region, funding will go to Ballston Lake, Canajoharie, the volunteer fire departments in Hudson and Johnstown.

The Melrose, Menands and Stephentown fire departments will also receive funding.
The money is going toward giving protective gear, training and supplies to emergency personnel.

The funds come from multiple federal grant programs related to safety and firefighters.
