Sen. Chuck Schumer was in Wyoming County – in Western New York – on Friday to discuss a bipartisan bill to make trains safer.
Schumer stood along the Norfolk Southern Rail Line, which has experienced two destructive derailments in recent years.
The legislation will increase transparency, hold railroad companies accountable for wrongdoing, and improve rail safety to keep communities safe.
The bill will be marked up in the commerce committee as soon as lawmakers return after Easter, Schumer said.
